Welcome 2026

 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New year means new travels!  One in the works but not set yet, is Moab in September.  Of course we have our Port Hope May trip.  Again, that is not set but I am sure that will happen.  I love that gang!  So chill!

I am also using Artful Agenda instead of writing in a journal.  I will have to set up my other laptop with this but it will be something I have been looking for in a journal for traveling as well as everyday.

As for other ideas for trips, nothing is in the works. I may update the list on here of our trips here since I have been using this for a long time.

Update on Tawas Trip

oops!  I forgot to write about Tawas!  Well, it was pretty low-key.  we had Robert and Sheila, Bob and Betsy, Chris and Lisa and us.

We were at site 3 which is to the right of the picture.  You can see Chris/Lisa's rig on the corner.  It was fun watching them trying to get it just right without hitting the tree, being in the road and level.

Overall, we did a lot of walking and saw the beach, sunrise and sunset, lighthouse tour and riding around Tuttle Marsh.  Definitely need to do this one again!

Catch up and wrap up of South Dakota

So much to catch up on but let's try it...

My last post was on Monday (you can read that post) but here is the rest of the week:

Tuesday August 12 - Stacy and I went horseback riding in the morning (we were the first ride of the day!).  I would post our pictures but this being a post with a wrap up, the link to all pictures will be at the end. Anywho, after that...we went to Custer Park and saw buffalo.  Buckley went ape shit over them and wanted to get them.  Then we drove on the Needles Highway and saw some neat rock spirals and tunnels. That took us to Crazy Horse monument. It did change a bit from the last time we were there but mostly the grounds (shops, restaurant, etc).  Everything looked rearranged.  There was a bit of progress on the monument too. After that, we went back to camp and had dinner and hung out by the fire.

Wed August 13 - We started this day early because we drove to Wyoming to see/hike Devil's Tower.  That was awesome looking!  I want to watch Close Encounters again to see it and say "I was there!".  The pups went with us but they couldn't hike the base.  We had them under the shade with the top down (screen up), windows half down and plus we walked them before we did the 1.5 mile hike. We saw rock climbers on the tower too!  Then we went off to Deadwood and Zeke got to sample jerky.  He hit all the water bowls in town.  Speaking of Zeke, we didn't need to use the wagon once.  Funny thing at Deadwood, they had a little gun fight show (scared the life out of Buckley) but there was a storm looming.  After the show, the guys walked ahead and John took Buckley and I had Zeke.  I don't mind walking slow with him because I am slow too.  I had to rush him along since the storm was picking up wind. By the time the downpour came, we took refuge under a porch by the eatery.  He got sympathy from the old ladies and he was loving it.  John came back to get us and he had to pick Zeke up because he was so tired and his legs were weak.  So much walking for that guy.  I am so proud of him to keep fighting.  We were going to go to Sturgis but the storm was crazy and Bill had no doors on his Jeep so they were soaked. We stopped at walmart and went back to camp.

Thursday Aug 14 - John's birthday! We went to the Pioneer's tent for their breakfast.  The pancakes were pretty good!  After that, we went on a hike to a gold mining area.  Again, we took the dogs but I think this was too much for Zeke.  It wasn't flat and it was a lot of unstable ground and hot.  WE came back to camp, I did a little laundry and got ice cream with Stacy.

Friday Aug 15 - We had to leave SD and went north to North Dakota to say we went there.  Really not much to see there.  We did see the Enchanted Highway and stopped in Bismarck for the night.

Saturday Aug 16 - Just a lot of driving and stayed over night in Minnesota at a KOA.

Sunday Aug 17 - We arrived in MI through the UP area and drove to Munising for the night (another KOA).

Monday Aug 18 -  The last trip home.  We had to cross The Mack and there was a high wind warning so we had to take it slow across plus there was construction on the bridge.  We did see someone off to the side trying to put their camper top back on the jeep but the wind took it off.  Her face was one of OMG! I can still see her reaction in my mind.  We hit the Love's for a quick stop (didn't want to get stuck in rush hour traffic) and got back to the lot about 4ish. Unhooked and packed up and got home.

Wrap up

South Dakota!

What a fun trip this was.  I know I forgot to add little incidents here and there but I do remember them.  Getting stuck in a storm, navigating unknown areas, etc that tested our communication skills.  And they sure did! The cool nights were such a welcome from the hot days.  Wyoming is beautiful while coming home to Michigan reminds me how awesome our state is as well.  Overall, a great trip and such a joy to share it with friends.

Soooo much to do!

 Buongiorno a tutti!

So yesterday we did 2 things but it was an all day event.  First we went back to Rushmore to hike and then went out to the badlands. That drive was the longest drive ever!

But we got to see buffalo 🦬, prairie dogs, bighorn sheep 🐏 and so much beautiful scenery!
I think we left the camp at 1pm and didn't get back until almost 9! Thankfully, we had the boys with us so they got to hang out with us.

This morning, Stacy and I are going horseback riding and then after, we are doing Crazy Horse & Custard National Park.  There is probably more we are doing but it's a start.  Anywho,  I'm going to get a little breakfast, take care of the pups and off to our riding adventure!

South Dakota ho!

 Buongiorno!

Well, we left Friday (August 8) about 630am and we took a few stops before arriving at the Mt Rushmore KOA.

Between the stops, we saw some bad weather,  wall drug and some really bad smoke from the Canadian wildfires.

Tonight,  we went up to Mt Rushmore and watched the lighting ceremony.  Tomorrow we are going back there to see the the events.  Then we will be doing the Badland loop.

Anywho, we are tired from the drive so it's an early night for all.

Tye Dye Saturday!

 Buongiorno a tutti!

Saturday was pretty low key for me.  John and Chris went off in his SxS to do some exploring and I did some laundry and hung out at camp.  It was too hot to go off and do anything and there isn't much to see on top of this mountain.  No trails or grassy areas to hang out that were shady.  So the boys and I stayed in and they napped and I did a few things around the house.

They arrived back about the time laundry was done and John went off to get us white tshirts for tye dye day in honor of Aunt Glennda.  It was so fun and my fingers are still a nice shade of colors!  hahaha!  I'm not too concerned about it.  Just showed that I had fun!

Today is reunion day at Donna's since the crowd is small but mighty!  Not sure when we will get there since we won't be bringing the dogs with us and our campsite is about 45mins away from the house.  John and I may have to do a trip between to feed and let them out for a bit.  Not sure how we are going to do this but it's ok.  It'll work out somehow.

I'm going to finish my coffee and make us breakfast.

Just a few things...

 Buongiorno a tutti!

Not much to report.  Friday we just cruised around and at night, Lisa got me drunk.  Needless to say, falling asleep was real easy and I am a lightweight.  Still a fun evening!

Saturday, we rode a trail that was close to the lodge and found the WV swing and got our picture on it.  Then took a trail to Walmart.  On the way there, we saw a snake and I thought it was squished but as John drove closer it slithered away.  We got a few pictures of it to show Randy to ask what kind it was.  Well, we found out it was a RATTLER!  OMGosh!  So glad we couldn't get out and check it out but I think John would have told me NO anyways.  So after that and our shopping trip, we went back to camp, fed the dogs and got a quick sandwich and then off to Donna's.  Had some food and chatted for a bit. About 10ish, we left to get back to camp and get the dogs settled in.

This morning, foggy but in the shade, it isn't too bad.  Hoping today we just hang out at camp and spend time with our mutts since we have been leaving them when we go off on the trails.

By the way, I have a gazzilion skeeter bites!  My bite stick is in full use!  I think I need a flame torch though!
